Trail Partner of the Year: Southwest Montana Mountain Bike Association
Every year we honor an individual or organization who has worked with GVLT to improve trail connectivity, access, and conditions in the Gallatin Valley. At this year’s Trail Mix we were thrilled to honor our friends at the Southwest Montana Mountain Bike Association. In just a few short years since their forming in 2015, SWMMBA has become a trusted and valued partner, advancing stewardship of trails and working diligently to create new trails for mountain bikers.
This last year SWMMBA members donated thousands of hours to work on trails throughout our area. They were instrumental in helping to fine tune the layout of the new Painted Hills Connector Trail and called on members to help us prepare the trail for the ribbon cutting. They’ve helped improve single track trails at Highland Glen, cleared downed trees on Triple Tree Trail and supported the Forest Service with trail maintenance.
Perhaps SWMMBA’s largest claim to fame is their development of the outstanding mountain biking trails at Copper City near Three Forks. This new trail system provides a space for beginners and advanced riders alike and will continue to develop as a regional cycling destination.
We’re grateful to have SWMMBA as a partner in the Trail Ambassador program. Members volunteer as Ambassadors and join other community members to ride the trails and share positive messages of etiquette and stewardship, while monitoring conditions for maintenance needs.
The list goes on. SWMMBA members are committed not only to their sport, but to the community. In our 29 year history we know, partners make it all happen. We couldn’t do this work without you. Thank you SWMMBA members and leaders. For more information on SWMMBA or to become a member, check out their website: https://www.southwestmontanamba.org/
