Triangle Area Trails Plan is a collaboration between Gallatin County and the Gallatin Valley Land Trust, with additional assistance from the Cities of Belgrade and Bozeman. Sanderson Stewart is the lead consultant in the development of the plan.
The project seeks to create a master plan for future trails within the Triangle area, generally located between Belgrade, Bozeman, and Four Corners. The area has seen tremendous growth over the past two decades with a wide mix of land uses. Home to a rich agricultural heritage, the Triangle is now also home to subdivisions, expanding commercial services and community amenities. The development pattern has created a patchwork of trails and pathways, mostly completed as part of subdivision development. While residents of the Gallatin Valley identify access to trails and open space high on a list of desired community amenities, access in the Triangle is inconsistent and often unpredictable.
Building upon the Triangle Community Plan, the Trails Plan will identify key corridors, missing connections, and opportunities to build a trail network while also providing implementation mechanisms and tools to complete a trail network for this diverse area of the community. Developing a successful Trail Plan will require evaluation of the existing infrastructure coupled with the identification of gaps in the network identified using technical tools and a public input process. The Trail Plan will also identify methods to improve the safety, convenience, and attraction of community trails.
