Have you ever tried to explain the Continental Divide to a 5 year old?
Camping last weekend on the banks of the Gallatin River, my daughter was brimming with questions between water fights and waving hello to countless rafters. “Where do the boats get in? Where does the river come from? Where does it go?”
When I explained the Gallatin starts in Yellowstone and joins other rivers to flow all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, I expected her blue eyes to widen in amazement at the distance, the scale, the significance.
