Congrats Gallatin County on earning the 2021 Trail Partner of the Year Award

March 19, 2021

Our Trail Re-Mix event looked a little different this year, but we were happy to continue the tradition of selecting and awarding a Trail Partner of the Year. GVLT gets a lot of credit for community trails, but every trail project is the result of a partnership. Each year, this award is given to individuals or organizations who advance trail development and/or improve trail experiences for the community. This year, the coveted Trail Partner of the Year award went to Gallatin County.

2020 made us especially grateful for the efforts and team at Gallatin County.  Gallatin County and GVLT are co-funding and co-leading a trail connectivity plan and vision for the Triangle Area west of Bozeman toward Belgrade and Four Corners called the Triangle Trail Plan. This plan will develop and maintain safe pedestrian routes through and to the three areas of the Triangle as Gallatin County continues to grow.

The County is also creating a grant program (Gallatin County Open Lands Program) to fund projects that create and support public access. Over the past year, Gallatin County has invested in the Regional Park. Once on the edges of town, the Gallatin Regional Park is now surrounded on all four sides by development. The County is hard at work to make improvements to the Regional Dog Park with Run Dog Run, working with GVLT on key trail connectors and safety improvements as part of our West to East Connector Project, and this past winter, they added groomed cross country ski trails, free and open to the public.

Thank you to Gallatin County Commissioners, Planning Department and Parks Staff for your leadership and hard work to ensure great trail experiences for today, and future generations.
