Haile Houghton is honored to join the Gallatin Valley Land Trust as the 2023 Big Sky Watershed Corps Member. Haile spent her most recent years earning her bachelor’s degree in Sustainable and Regenerative Living at Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa. With her dream of living more in alignment with the Earth’s systems, she placed her focus on permaculture, natural building, and organic agriculture. Originally from San Diego, CA, Haile has traveled extensively both within the United States and internationally, providing her with an openness and appreciation for other cultures and ecologies. She began visiting Montana several years ago and fell in love with the mountains, rivers, lakes and big ol’ skies. This breathtaking place continued to call her back and she made the move permanent as soon as life allowed. Haile is both an environmentalist and an outdoors aficionado, making the partnership with GVLT an ideal match. In addition to the excitement of assisting to preserve the land, she looks forward to creating personal connections with the local community in and around Gallatin County. During her 2023 term of service, she hopes to be of benefit to our environment and make a lasting impact on the way we all enjoy the last best place.
An enthusiastic hiker, camper, and backpacker, Haile often spends her free time exploring the seemingly endless bounty of natural spaces that Southwest Montana has to offer. You might also find her gardening, doing yoga, soaking in a nearby hot spring, or learning something new!
