Ellie Long

Trail Boss

“I am driven by work that strengthens our communities and cares for the land. I believe that trails are the critical connection, and I am thrilled to start engaging volunteers and improving our local trail system this summer.”

Ellie Long joined Gallatin Valley Land Trust in May 2024 as a part of the Big Sky Watershed Corps program. She serves as the Trail Boss with GVLT, helping to coordinate and lead volunteer events to maintain and improve Gallatin Valley’s well-loved trail system. Ellie’s background is in environmental policy and communications, with three years of advocacy experience in Washington, D.C. under her belt working with the Alliance to Save Energy and the Solar Energy Industries Association. She received dual degrees in political science and global studies, as well as a minor in creative writing, from California Lutheran University in May 2020. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Ellie loves everything and anything that takes her into the mountains. In 2023, she spent five months solo backpacking on the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada, where she gained 2,600 miles of on-the-ground trail experience. She also works in the winter with Big Sky Resort as an alpine ski instructor. She is thrilled for the opportunity to live and work in the vibrant Bozeman community.
