The great irony of the holiday season is hard to escape. When the hours of daylight and the temperatures dwindle to mere single-digits, you would think our response would be to pursue moments of quiet contemplation and reflect on the past year. From biological, religious, and environmental perspectives, the winter solstice and year-end beg us to slow down, cozy up, and be present in the moment.
Yet, so many of us spend December occupied with holiday parties and performances, ever-expanding shopping lists, anxiety over family gatherings, and overambitious baking plans.
