The Sixth Annual FUNKSGIVING is a 70s dance party for everyone who likes to get down on it! Come boogie down to the tasty sounds of THE SWEET GROOVALICIOUS FUNK MACHINE! This year's party will be at The Rialto, for an extra swanky affair, and we'll be sharing any proceeds with GVLT. This is the dance party event of the year, and 70s COSTUMES are strongly encouraged! Let's see those bell bottoms, 'staches, and sequins! Doors open 7:30 and music starts around 8:30.
Funksgiving Dance Party to Benefit GVLT
On Saturday, November 17 at 8:00 p.m., a 70s themed costume dance party called “Funksgiving” will take place at The Rialto in Bozeman.
The event will feature dancing, 1970s costumes (optional but encouraged), and music by The Sweet Groovalicious Funk Machine, a band that plays “retro funk and soul with some ‘funkified’ versions of modern hits thrown in—all designed to get everyone dancing.” The group has performed at Music on Main in Bozeman, among other public and private events.
While Funksgiving is primarily a dance party, there is also a community-building element to the event.
“Originally we put on a couple ‘Funksgiving-type’ parties that were private events, but they were so much fun we decided to make it a public thing several years ago, and started a tradition of helping different local non-profits get the word out about the good work they’re doing,” describes David Thompson, bass player for SGFM and the founder of the event.
This year’s Funksgiving partner is Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT).
Thompson points out “This annual event is basically all about dancing and having a great time, but it’s a great bonus to also help out one of the many Montana non-profit groups we’re all ‘funkful’ for each year.”
Tickets are available for $15 online (through The Rialto/TicketFly) or $18 at the door. For more information, visit Sweet Groovalicious Funk Machine’s event page on Facebook: (https://www.facebook.com/events/2062524637404367/)
